About Kevin Callahan

I’ve been a Founder, COO, CTO, and CPO, but at my core, I’m a product builder with 20+ years of experience creating technology that improves people’s lives. In 2005, I founded MapMyRun with a simple belief: technology could motivate people to move more. That idea grew into MapMyFitness, which I co-built alongside Robin Thurston and Jeff Kalikstein into one of the world’s most influential digital fitness platforms. In 2013, the company was acquired by Under Armour, helping define the modern mobile fitness category.

I’ve since come full circle. After leading several major initiatives at Outside Inc., including the company’s early Web3 exploration and later serving as VP of Product across its digital portfolio, I returned to MapMy as Interim GM and VP of Product. Alongside a group of original MapMy leaders, we repurchased the platform and set out to rebuild it for the next generation. Today, we’re focused on creating best-in-class fitness experiences for more than 90 million users worldwide, with a renewed emphasis on simplicity, performance, and long-term value.

Most recently, after re-establishing MapMy’s momentum, restoring revenue growth, and building a strong leadership bench, I stepped into a new role leading Outside Labs. In this role, I focus on incubation, experimentation, and strategic bets. I am developing new internal initiatives, exploring applied AI, and building scalable systems that can power the next decade of Outside’s growth.

As a leader, I believe in giving smart people the autonomy to do great work, to take smart risks, to learn quickly, and to ship with purpose. I’m drawn to builders who thrive in ambiguity and care deeply about impact. I believe small, well-placed decisions can create outsized outcomes, and I take pride in building teams that ship thoughtful, human-centered products.

Outside of work, I’m deeply involved in the Austin tech ecosystem as a Super Mentor and EIR at Capital Factory, where I help founders navigate scale, sharpen strategy, and avoid a few of the mistakes I’ve made along the way. I’ve also lived and worked around the world, which shaped my belief that great technology should be global, inclusive, and fundamentally human.
